The isle and the pavillion of Human Rights on Ile Verte (new photos and a new facility, 28 January 2008)

For the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Associated Humans have made possible the emergence of the Isle of Human Rights from the ocean floor of Ile Verte (see album). There you will find a small exhibition for SLifers (residents of Second Life), organized in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, displaying UN historical documents and the Declaration of Human Rights translated into several languages.

The 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights offers a wealth of potential, such as creating an awareness of the fundamental liberties inherent in each individual and for tackling the numerous topics that make international headlines in an innovative and attractive way. Like a charter for modern times, it personifies in its thirty articles the rights we take for granted which are continuously flouted. Whether it be torture or extreme poverty; the fight against terrorism or HIV/AIDS; armed conflict or migration and environment issues; human rights are present in a great many press articles. The celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the legal international arsenal that stems from it offers a stimulating and modern prospect for addressing those aforementioned topics and many more.

During the Human Rights Day celebrations on 10 December 2007, the Associated Humans organized a classical music concert with a quartet, which played exclusively for Ile Verte before an audience of around fifty avatars (mixed reality, video here and photos).
